5th Annual American Beatbox Championships Announces Headliner and Guest Judge Michael Winslow

New York, NY — The American Beatbox Championships spits out its 5th annual event with the legendary vocal wizard Michael Winslow, who will headline as a celebrity judge and performer for the grand finale of America’s toughest vocal battle. Winslow is best known for his work in the Police Academy film franchise. His appearance in Mel Brook’s classic film Spaceballs cemented him as a pop culture icon. Winslow is a master of vocal gymnastics, who is known to imitate over 10,000 sound effects using his voice alone.
Coming off the successful premiere of American Beatboxer on Revolt TV, Michael Winslow was inspired to see the evolution of the artform on television and is excited to participate in this year’s championship event as beatboxing takes its place as a respected art form. The Revolt television network debut of the award-winning documentary American Beatboxer marks the first time a feature film documenting the art of beatbox has ever been broadcast to a national television audience.
American Beatboxer tells the story of the first American Beatbox Championships. Competitors, beatbox artists, and enthusiasts from all over the world came to compete, perform, and experience the crowning of the first American beatbox champion. Directed and edited by Manauvaskar Kublall, produced by Rich McKeown and exec produced by Drama Desk award winner Chesney Snow, the film features two-time Grammy award winner Rahzel from the Roots, Jarobi White from the iconic Hip Hop group, A Tribe Called Quest, and Parrish Smith of EPMD.
American Beatboxer was an official selection of the Urbanworld Film Festival (HBO/BET), Hollywood Black Film Festival, Pan African Film Festival, among others and garnered the Audience Choice award at the Peoples Film Festival and received the Mark of Distinction at NYC Independent Film Festival. American Beatboxer, is currently running on Revolt with encores scheduled for August 2 @ 7pm EST, August 3 @10am EST, August 12@ 6pm EST, and August 13 @12 EST.
The American Beatbox Championship builds on the regional competitions held across the US. Winners Mr. Wobbles took the west coast battle and Amit Bhowmik won the east coast battle.
